Creating Tomorrow's Readers
Hundreds of children in Santa Fe’s public schools live below the poverty level or in single parent homes. Some are homeless. The majority are on a free meal program of some kind. Not surprisingly, these children have limited access to books and reading opportunities outside of school. BOOKKIDS exists to ensure that they receive free books every spring so they can practice their reading skills over the summer and be ready for the fall semester.
One Book at a Time!
In 2017, our first year, BOOKKIDS distributed 2,400 books to over 300 children in Santa Fe. The children got to pick out six books of their own, then print or write their name in the book’s book plate to declare their ownership. This year we hope to broaden our reach. To do this, BOOKKIDS needs to increase our donations over last year.
Can you help?
Our fundraising goal for 2019 is $16,000, an amount that would allow us to resource 860 children.
· $15 will buy 6 books for one child, plus book plates
· $60 will buy 6 books for four children, plus book plates
· $300 will buy books and book plates for a classroom of 20 children
